IGNA 2019 Meditation Retreat

We are pleased to invite you to the sixth IGNA annual meditation retreat! The IGNA 2019 Meditation Retreat will take place in Bruges, Belgium.  IGNA’s annual meditation retreat is the main annual event in Europe where new and long term students of Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche come together to receive Dharma teachings, meditation instructions and deepen their practice of meditation to develop compassion and wisdom in a form of silent residential retreat. The retreat is open to all.

Introduction to the Retreat


Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche is the head of Achen Monastery in the Golok region of Amdo. Rinpoche is an accomplished meditation master and a lineage holder in the Longsal and Longchen Nyingtik of Dzogchen meditation in Tibetan Buddhist Traditions. During the retreat Rinpoche will give us teachings via Skype. He might be able to come in person but we will not be able to confirm this before the retreat. Read more about Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche.



Venerable Pieter Johnston (Lakshyong Jyamtso lama) is the instructor Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche appointed for English speaking students. He has been practicing Dzogchen Meditation since 2006 with Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche. Venerable Pieter travels twice a year to Europe giving lectures, teaching meditation and supporting retreats. Venerable Pieter Johnston will be translating for Rinpoche, teaching and guiding us during the retreat.


Retreat Routines

We will start early in the morning according to the monastic tradition and alternate meditation, teachings and other practices during the day. Teachings will be held in both English and Chinese. All the practices during the retreat will be guided by Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche and/or Venerable Pieter Johnston. The retreat routines will include:

The Venue

The retreat takes place at Hotel Lodewijk van Male, which is situated on the outskirts of Bruges, Belgium. Hotel Lodewijk van Male is situated 6 km from Bruges train station, and about 5 km from the city of Bruges. This venue offers comfortable accommodation, catering of vegetarian food and facilities suitable for Dharma teachings, group meditation and practice.
